What is it like to do couples counseling via telehealth?
Couples are physically together in the same room while the therapist is providing therapy sessions through a telehealth platform. The therapist joins the session remotely using video conferencing. This approach allows the therapist to engage with the couple and provide counseling and support while not being physically present in the room. It offers the convenience of remote therapy, making it accessible to couples regardless of their location. The setup ensures that the couples and the therapist can interact and communicate effectively, fostering a productive and supportive therapeutic environment.

What are the benefits of telehealth therapy?
Convenience: Telehealth therapy allows individuals to access therapy from the comfort of their own homes, eliminating the need to travel to a physical location.
Accessibility: It improves access to mental health services for those in rural or remote areas, as well as individuals with mobility challenges or disabilities.
Flexibility: Telehealth sessions often offer more flexible scheduling options, making it easier for individuals to find appointment times that fit their busy lives.
Anonymity and Privacy: Some people may feel more comfortable discussing sensitive topics in a virtual setting, which can enhance privacy and encourage open communication.
Reduced Stigma: Online therapy can help reduce the stigma associated with seeking mental health support, as it may feel less intimidating than traditional face-to-face therapy.
Continuity of Care: Telehealth can provide ongoing support, even when individuals are unable to attend in-person sessions due to travel or other circumstances.

What happens if we lose connection?
If the connection is lost during a therapy session, don't worry, as this situation can be managed smoothly. Here's what happens:
Stay Calm: First and foremost, remain calm. Technical glitches are common, and your therapist will understand that it's beyond your control.
Reconnection Attempts: Try to reconnect to the telehealth platform immediately. The therapist may also try to reconnect with you if possible.
Alternative Communication: If the connection cannot be reestablished quickly, your therapist might reach out to you via phone or email to continue or reschedule the session.
Discussing Impact: Once you're back online, the therapist will likely address any potential impact the disconnection had on the session and discuss any concerns or feelings that arose during the interruption.
Rescheduling (if necessary): In some cases, if the session was significantly disrupted, you and your therapist might decide to reschedule the remaining time or schedule a follow-up session to cover missed content.

Remember, technology hiccups are normal in telehealth, and therapists are prepared to handle such situations. Openly communicating with your therapist about any difficulties or emotions resulting from the disconnection will help ensure that your therapeutic progress continues smoothly.
